Mas Martinet Els Escurçons is a single vineyard, single variety wine made with Garnacha (Grenache) planted in the same name plot, located on a hilly area surrounded by woods, nearby Gratallops town. The vines grow at around 600 meters above sea level, on typical Priorat soils of "llicorella" which is the local name for slate, in this case a reddish color one, rich in iron.
Winemaking notes: the grapes went through a 5-day maceration before the fermentation started in ceramic jar (amphorae). After 3 weeks, the wine was put into smaller amphoraes (clay jars) for 12 month aging and afterwards racked into 54-litre glass demijons for further 8 months aging. The wine does not interact with oak at any time of the process.
The 2015 vintage was a very special one because the are suffered from a great wildfire. Luckily, the vineyard was saved, but the harvest was drastically reduced (only just about 1,000 bottles were filled of this wine, unusually low number). This magnificent wine tells us the history of that summer through the liquid: the smoky notes are clearly present although nicely intertwined with the fruity profile of Grenache.
